Welcome!

INTRODUCTION

Award winning, Children’s Science Specialist, PAT ROLLER, invites you to join her in building “creative, problem solving kids.”  Knowledge is power and our free activities for young children offer direct experience helping children begin to understand that everything comes from our planet, including ourselves. When children spend lots of time observing and experimenting outdoors, they adapt to outside weather conditions and become strong … physically, mentally, and emotionally. They develop self confidence such that “outdoor survival activities for kids” come easily and are fun. This is very helpful when kids have to adapt to harsh conditions such as tornadoes, hurricanes, earthquakes, and floods, which are becoming more severe, due to CLIMATE CHANGE.

This website is different than others bearing similar names. It presents experiments which teach concepts in-depth. We focus on how children learn, so that positive changes occur in their attitude and behavior toward our planet. Our mission is not only to help children learn “how our amazing, wonderful planet works,” but also to help them develop good character traits such as: civility, cooperation, courage over fear, focus, persistence, and love, as they bond with our planet outdoors.

We offer our best child-tested high interest easy, inexpensive and fun, wind, solar, chemistry, and kid’s ecology experiments FREE. In addition we offer my two books as eBooks, written for young kids with lots of pictures, FREE also.  They are Pink Hat’s Adventure with Kites,” and “Pink Hat’s Adventure with Seagulls, Hats and Dancing Feet.

OVERVIEW

Here are the 3 major sections of this website, and what they teach:

ENERGY – Wind Energy – kids make, fly, and experiment with kites they make. Today more than 18,000 kids are making kites, and working with the power of the wind.

Solar Energy – Kids learn about sun power by making Solar Ovens with pizza boxes, and using them in many experiments, among which is cooking their lunch.

ENVIRONMENT – The School Garden, Experiment With Plant Fertilizers, The Child’s Home Garden and Sanctuary , Earth Care and Share,

Under “Children’s ECOLOGY   The word “SPICE” is used as an antonym for 5 sets of ecology concepts learned while walking outdoors. They can be adapted to outdoors anywhere although the setting for this one is the beach. The SPICE Connection Adventure Walk teaches so much in such an interesting way. Recommended for kids ages 4 to 104.

CHEMISTRY – Chemistry – Parts 1, 2, and 3 experiments are done indoors.  Kids really love doing these exciting experiments. Recommended for kids ages 8 – 108.

For those who work with groups of children, Classroom Management,” and “Cooperative Learning Groups for Science, as well as, how to create a room for science, and how to manage kids who are often doing experiments in those small groups. This is called: CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT.

CURRENT EVENTS ABOUT CLIMATE CHANGE:

For 50 years, our presidents have known climate change is happening. Source (15 minutes showing proof on March 3, 2019, TV show, 60 Minutes.)

Mark Kelly, former astronaut, speaks of the beauty of Planet Earth as seen from space.  He also speaks of the SCARS he can see on our planet from outer space.  He is advocating for change now.  He said, “Don’t worry about the planet, what you need to worry about is all of us.

Swiss skier, Daniel Yule, will give his money to an athlete-backed charity campaigning against climate change. So far he has earned almost $90,000 this season. (Norman Transcript, 3/3/2019)

Einstein stated “You can’t solve a problem using the thinking that created it.” Today, new thinking is called for to help solve our problems. In his book, “The Lorax” by Dr. Seuss, he says, “unless someone cares a whole awful lot, it’s not gonna happen, it’s not.”

We care, that is the entire reason for this website. We believe if we do a good job helping our kids learn “How Our Amazing Planet Works,” they will go on with confidence to take high school chemistry.

Later, because of their love for out planet, they will be able to make a significant contribution in reducing CLIMATE CHANGE.  Today’s children, and their children, may be the last generation of humans to survive unless we do our job as teachers, parents, grand-parents, and citizens in our communities.  If we wait  for our President and Congress to do it, it will be too late.
